Oh I love this. I frequently have dinner leftovers for breakfast. Last week, I made a carrot tarte tatin and had it for breakfast two days running. I also caught myself thinking “I wish I could have noodles for breakfast…” and so then I had noodles for breakfast.

Also this - “And I’ve just realised how much I talk about beans” - made me laugh and also do you know Catherine Newman? The woman is chickpea mad https://cronesandwich.substack.com/

Ooh I’ve never had a carrot tarte tatin. And I love that you wished for noodles then had the noodles!

Also, I appreciate you reading all the way to the end (re beans quote). Thanks for sharing the chickpea woman, following now. I had chickpeas 5 ways at a restaurant recently, she would have loved it 😅

Thank you so much! Chickpea woman is also an amazing author, not just a chickpea obsessive 😂

Really liked this list! Gives me a few ideas, really like the hummus and veggies on toast. Also, it is incredible what other cultures eat around the world for breakfast. Helps break free of the mindset that only certain foods can be consumed in the morning

Exactly, it really helped me to think about other breakfast cultures and question why we are so limited. Breakfast is much more enjoyable now with more variety and exploration!

Thanks for this article and for the mention! Hooray for a different take on breakfast! Let’s escape boring dull “pink pancake cafe” breakfast together!!!

Love this! Down with the pink breakfast cafes ✊🏼 Thanks for your Sicilian contribution, NEED some ricotta in my mornings!

This is great, thank you. We have been having kimkchi omelettes quite often recently, which are lovely. Also fond of sourdough toast with avocado (with guacamole, if I've got some in the fridge or just fresh qnd nushed up with garlic, chilli qnd line juice) and q couple of fried eggs on top. But I tend to default very easily to toast and peanut butter (which I guess is protein, so may not be as bad as I imagine - and always on wholemeal toast).

How funny - I just commented on how I have been making kimchi cottage cheese scrambled eggs. Isn't kimchi amazing in eggs!

Oh, I'll have to try that!

These are great breakfast options! Kimchi and eggs are fab and you can't go wrong with avo toast. If you're bored of peanut butter, I like almond or cashew butter for a bit of variety (and they contain more nutrients) x

This is what we want! Capitalism gave us Cap'n Crunch, nasty sliced white industrial bread, and now egregious liquid protein shake breakfasts. Real food is resistance and real food feeds our senses and spirits. Bless you for this work!

100% agree 'real food feeds our senses and spirits'. Thank you Caroline! 🙌🏼

I am a creature of habit, so I like my breakfast oatmeal (I add chopped nuts to mine to up the protein) and summers are for yogurt, fruit and some granola, but I am a firm believer in breakfast being whatever you want to eat. Sometimes I suddenly want something different. Banana sliced on top of peanut butter toast is one thing I will sometimes crave. Avocado with a scoop of cottage cheese and some freshly ground pepper is another.

Exactly, breakfast is whatever you enjoy eating and what makes you feel good. All these options sound great! x

Bean fan club reporting in 🫡

Lately for breakfast I’ve been doing a big mountain of thick greek yoghurt with a little granola on top. Delicious.

Love the breakfast inspo here! My current go-to breakfasts are protein pancakes topped with almond butter, ground flax (you don't taste it), and cacao nibs, and kimchi cottage cheese scrambled eggs. I just shared my egg recipe here last week. Gut health and extra protein! Very filling and delicious.

I tummy and brain always seems happiest with Japanese influenced breakfasts. I LOVE brown rice, Miso soup and some veggies with egg. I feel like I'm winning in life when I manage that. And if there's something pickled, or Kimchi then even better. (I know Kimchi isn't Japanese, but its essential in my house!)

Frankly, I'm shocked and devastated that in our bajillion-year-in-real-life friendship you have not ONCE served me or even told me about Tashreeb bagila. It sounds AMAZING. How are we gonna fix this potential frissure in our relationship?

Probably because I only eat it at my mum's house 😅 I'll make it happen on your next visit though. Fava beans and soggy bread can repair any relationship!
